On Saturday night, June 23 – a 70+ year old British rock and roll legend took the stage in Tel Aviv and delivered a blistering rock and roll set that your parents (or even grandparents) would have probably enjoyed more than you.
So, why are we even mentioning Sir Ringo? Because, Ringo (he was knighted by Her Royal Majesty, the Queen of England – so out of respect and because we love him we’re adding the ‘sir’ part) represents a growing line of musicians and artists who have decided that Israeli fans matter, and those who urge these same musicians to boycott Israel – well, they really don’t matter.
You might have heard of a band called The Beatles. Ringo was their ever-lovable drummer, and one of the last two surviving members. Sir Paul McCartney played Israel in 2008, despite death threats. He joins guys like Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen, and others who would rather hang out with thousands of fans than give-in to the BDS nonsense that tries in vain to keep them from rocking Israel.
The Beatles also owe their fame to a Jewish guy named Brian Epstein. Epstein ‘packaged’ The Beatles and never took ‘no’ for an answer when he was taking their demo record around to every record label in London, trying to get The Beatles an audition.
Rock on Ringo!
