Oscars Best Picture hit by another blunder as winner’s speech CUT OFF in awkward gaffe a year after envelope-gate

All eyes were on the Best Picture award at the Oscars last night as things went so spectacularly wrong with envelope-gate last year.

But while Warren Beatty Faye Dunaway announced winner The Shape of Water correctly this year, another awkward blunder quickly unfolded.

Director Guillermo del Toro made his acceptance speech and championed the fantasy film genre – encouraging other film makers to get involved.

“This is a door,” he concluded. “Kick it open and come in.”

As he wrapped his speech up, the film’s producer J. Miles Dale stepped up to the microphone for his big moment – but it never came.

“This movie…” he began but then he was brutally cut off.

The mic went off, the sound came up and the lights went down. Seriously awkward.

Jimmy Kimmel tried to rectify the blunder as he asked the producer what he’d wanted to say – but it was too late.
